Artist Statement

Precious items, furniture, familiar toys, character silhouettes.

My work investigates visual playscapes by juxtaposing ceramic objects, 3D printed items, and fabrics onto various pieces of furniture inspired by design. Through the practice of crafting detailed ceramic forms, I look to create a feeling of nostalgia by borrowing recognizable shapes, patterns, and colors of objects from childhood toys. Once these objects are made, time is spent with them to develop a relationship and to arrange them in various configurations. Other materials, such as plastics and felt, are then included to contrast the stone-like quality of the ceramic objects. Through curating these objects and varied arrangements, I look to create a space that considers the role that play has within our lives.
